Why Sofia?

Over the last six months, people keep asking the same question, "Why Sofia?" Oddly enough, some people have made assumptions that I may be slavic in my ancestry line because my name is Nikita. Well, I'm not. (My mother is a BIG Elton John fan!)

The first answer = Google it. It's beautiful. Cathedrals. Medieval & Communist structures. Roman ruins. All in one city. The history is limitless.

Look closely for the baby with golden twig & berries. The artist had a sense of humor and was fired shortly after. It was never corrected.
Bulgarian National Theatre

Second answer = Cake. Sweets. Desserts. Hot Chocolate Pudding. What say you? We visited in January 2019 and waltzed into a small cafe. Across the room from the entrance was a display that read:

Case in point.

Beyond that, Bulgaria is a diamond in the rough. The local currency is called the Lev. It converts to the USD at just over $0.60. This means you can spend 100 Lev, but only $60 gets billed to your credit card. If you have a credit card that offers no foreign transaction fees, then you're set to splurge. Eat the cake. Drink top shelf. Buy the shoes. Treat.Yo.Self.

Bulgaria is also centrally located in the middle of Europe and offers flights to neighboring countries for CHEAP! Like $20 cheap to Greece. Or $50 cheap to Western European countries. Oh the places we'll go!

The real answer is Matthew received a job offer. After our short visit (in the dead of winter) and most of the reasons mentioned above, we said YES!
